Another main principle, this time common for every programme supported by structural funds, is gender mainstreaming or equal opportunities for women and men in all planned and executed activities of supported projects.
Application of equal opportunities for women and men is perceived as a big problem in Europe. The inequality is most evident on the labour market. Since the beginning of 1990s the unemployment of women in the Czech Republic has been higher on average by 3 %. Besides that, there are many more long-term unemployed women than men. In 2000, 49.9 % of the unemployed women were long-term unemployed. Another problem in the Czech Republic as well as in other EU member states is the remuneration. Average remuneration of women employed full-time in the EU is lower by 27 % in comparison to the average remuneration of men. The smallest difference is in the new federal states of Germany - 12 % and in Sweden - 17 %; the biggest differences are in Great Britain - 34 %, Greece - 32 % and in the Netherlands - 31 %. Czech Republic states the average difference of 27 %.
Very important way that leads to application of gender mainstreaming in this project is the same remuneration of men and women on the same position. Since women are able to perform as well as men and are equally responsible, unequal remuneration of men and women is not in place. In addition, mixed work team can derive more benefits, because confrontation of different opinions of men and women will lead to better results within and also beyond the project.
